Religious Education at Legsby Primary School 

Intent

At Legsby Primary School, our aim is to ensure our pupils have a good knowledge of the major religions of the world. We believe that it is important to understand why faith motivates people and how belief has shaped culture and events through history. We want our children to realise that knowledge can bring understanding and tolerance into society, allowing communities to live harmoniously without being afraid of difference. It is also the desire of Legsby that learners realise that those of faith, as well as those of none are equal in their place on Earth. Our intention is that learners will be keen to question and reflect on their own beliefs.

Implementation

Legsby School follows the revised Lincolnshire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education. We have worked with the diocese of Lincoln to design a curriculum that covers all the requirements of the curriculum in an enriching, stimulating manner. Our Religious Education is delivered through a variety of means, including art, discussion and storytelling. We celebrate different religions by learning the rituals and worship practised by their followers – embracing the food and prayers when appropriate during the year.

Impact

The result of our Religious Education curriculum will be that our learners will:

  • Have a broad knowledge of the world’s major religions
  • Use their developed vocabulary to explain belief and faith.
  • Be tolerant of different beliefs and faiths.
  • Reflective of their own values
  • Make connections between their own beliefs and those of others
  • Will be able to interpret religious symbols and teachings
  • Explore how religion has affected the world and continues to shape events.
