Phonics Scheme

Phonics are a statutory requirement in Key stage 1 and at Legsby we follow the Little Wandle programme. This is a five-phase teaching programme that ensures high quality progression through the phonics phases.

In the summer term of Year One children will undertake a national phonics screening test to ensure they are meeting age-related expectations.

Reading Scheme

Legsby School follows the Big Cat Collins reading Scheme, which are fully decodable reading books. The children are also encouraged to read widely from the well stocked library and use their reading skills to support their learning in lessons. The School's ethos engenders the love of books and storytime is a valued part of each day.
