Sports Provision

JB Coaching is employed to ensure good quality provision throughout the school. A rolling programme of activities allows the children to get a wide and varied experience of sporting activities throughout the year. As well as weekly PE lessons JB Coaching run lunchtime and after school clubs where children can continue their love of sport. During the summer term Legsby will be participating in interschool events with other local schools.

In Term 3 and 4 the whole school go to Yarborough Leisure Centre for weekly swimming lessons. Each year children work with trained professionals to win certificates which celebrate their achievements.

Intent

At Legsby Primary our intent is that every child will enjoy participating in Sport and realise the physical and mental health benefits of exercise. We want our learners to embrace team and individual competition whilst understanding that there are ways to be dignified winners as well as being gracious in defeat. We also wish them to understand that training and dedication are ways to improve performance by building on previously learnt skills.

Implementation

We will provide access to high quality PE coaching through a spiral curriculum starting with the building blocks in EYFS and developing them through to Year 6. Children will have opportunities to attend sports clubs after school and will be encouraged to join lunchtime sports clubs as well as develop leadership skills. We have a whole school approach to swimming which starts in KS1 and develops through to Year 6. The children will access swimming on a weekly basis through terms 3 and 4 and will be assessed at the end of each course. Swimming is particularly relevant to our learners due to the proximity and popularity of the coast. We celebrate our sporting achievements with an annual sports day which parents and carers are warmly invited to attend.

Impact

The impact of our PE curriculum will be to have pupils who embrace the excitement of competition but who are aware of the importance of being supportive to those in their team.  Learners will have the skills necessary to make the most of every sporting opportunity secondary school will offer. Our pupils will emerge as learners who connect physical well-being with good mental health as they move through life with the confidence to participate in team sports as well as to challenge themselves in ways to improve.
