Intent
At Legsby Primary School, we want our learners to be practical problem solvers. We want them to have a good knowledge of the real world around them and build a foundation for skills that will serve them as they move through, and eventually leave, the education system. Our pupils will understand that the design process is crucial to deciding how to solve a problem using the available resources and that evaluation is key to learning how to improve, not only in Design Technology but across all areas of life.
Implementation
By following a spiral curriculum designed for our learners, the children work through a two/three-year cycle (dependent on class) to ensure full coverage of the National Curriculum. As well as discrete topics we link the subject matter to the needs of our learners and our locality wherever possible. Skills and knowledge are revisited to ensure they are embedded, and vocabulary is clearly specified on knowledge organisers.
Impact
- Our learners will know how to follow instructions
- They will understand how to create a design, evaluate, review and improve it
- Pupils will be able to choose appropriate tools for a job.
- They will be able to use relevant vocabulary to communicate their goals.
- Understand the importance of nutrition as part of a healthy lifestyle
- They will be able to work as an individual or part of a team to solve real world practical problems.
