Art Intent
At Legsby, we view art as an integral part of the children’s development and expression of self. There are many lessons to be learnt through the teaching of art, including allowing for opportunities for individual interests, thoughts and ideas to be expressed. Through our art curriculum we want our learners to be:
- Inspired, engaged and challenged despite pupils’ individual background, cultures and abilities
- Aware of creative work using the language of art, craft and design
- Confident in exploring creative work and recording their experiences
- Aware of different great artists and designers and how their impact has led to historical and cultural development in art forms
Implementation
Art is taught as part of our topic-based curriculum provided by Cornerstones and designed in reflection of our local environment and unique make up of Legsby. The art National Curriculum provides us with a broad framework outlining the necessary skills and knowledge obtained as the children progress through each year group. To ensure full coverage of art is taught within Legsby, teaching staff refer to the progression document ensuring progressive knowledge and skills are used from one year group to another.
At Legsby art is taught is a variety of forms to ensure a broad and balanced curriculum is reflected. Throughout our study of art, the children are exposed to famous artists, designers and architects from all around the world. We explore different artist styles whilst also allowing the children a chance to explore their own interests and styles.
Impact on our Learners
As a result of our art curriculum:
- Confidence to explore their individualism and imagination
- The children to have access to an outlet for creativity with knowledge on how to better express their ideas and emotions
- A growing interest in art, architecture and design that can be developed and inspired as they progress through their lives
