Holidays during Term Time
Absence from school, for any reason, can have a negative impact on a child’s educational progress.
To this end, term time absence should be avoided whenever possible, and (with effect from September 2013), holiday absence if taken during term time will be classed as unauthorised absence [except in exceptional circumstances]. Current law does not give any entitlement to parents to take their child on holiday during term time.
Parents should be aware that any parent who fails to ensure their child(ren)’s regular attendance at school may be issued with a Penalty Notice (fine) of £60 payable within 21 days, or £120 if they pay within 28 days to the County Council, not the School.
